Research Lines on Geodesy & Gravity


Title: Gravimetric geoid solutions for several regions of Earth.

Objectives: The goal of this research line is the obtaining the geoid undulation in several regions of Earth. For this purpose, we shall make gravity measurements for the regions mentioned above. Because of the gravity anomalies are given in a limited area, cannot resolve the long wavelengths of the gravity field. For it, we need consider a geopotential model expansion to compute these long wavelengths, which represent a smooth approximation of the geoid for the local area under study. Thus, in a pre-processing step, we shall obtain the free-air anomalies referenced to the geopotential model, computing the difference with the anomalies predicted by this model. These differences will be used in a FFT integration procedure to obtain the undulation of the geoid, which in a post-processing step will be added to the geoid undulation predicted by the geopotential model considered.

Objectives: The goal of this research line is the obtaining of the crustal structure (density structure) and the Moho undulation for several regions of the world. For this purpose, we shall make gravity measurements for each region mentioned above. After, we shall obtain the Bouguer anomalies. Finally, we shall compute the inversion of these anomalies taking into account other geophysical and geological data.
